The big question! We don’t have a straightforward answer for you due to the in-house, family-built nature of this project, when we built it. We estimate the cost to have been approx. $120,000 AUD which included paying ourselves as tradesmen. Final cost may vary depending on your location and specific building permit requirements, changing cost of materials etc..

Find the best container you can afford. Any bumps or bruises will mean more work in repairs and prep work and also less strength overall. It is critical the floor frame and corner posts are straight and in reasonable condition. Having lots of dents makes it more difficult to mark out and cut openings accurately and harder to fit the structural frame to the openings.

We used a Franna Crane which was perfect for the job. Our operator held the top floor container in-situ while we welded it in place.

We used a combination of Aircell and Bulk Insulation where appropriate. You will need to use insulation suitable for your climate and building permit/energy requirements.

Your local council will be able to answer all your permit questions for your property in your specific area.

We have not included engineering in this package because engineering must be calculated for your specific location, wind zones and directions, soil types, and climate. It is not possible to offer a blanket plan that caters for all these variables. However, this plan set is ready to take directly to an engineer in your area who will be able to specify everything you need, which you can then take to your chosen certified or council for your permit.

This package includes the electrical plan that we used for our build. Your electrician will need to calculate mains supply and where best to locate your switchboard – if required.

Your plumber will be able to design and construct suitable plumbing to service your selected fixtures and fittings.
